Topic: Will your Anchor Hold?

Text: Acts 27:15-24

Golden Verse: “The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along” Acts 27:15

In our text this morning we find the apostle Paul being taken captive to Rome where he would eventually die. As a Roman citizen he had requested and was granted a hearing in Rome. Along his journey there arose a great storm. There is nothing quite as frightening as being at sea and meeting with a storm. They found themselves in a situation where to survive; they had to cast out four anchors and waited for the storm to subside. In the course of life, we find ourselves from time to time in the midst of some difficult storms. How we handle these trying times will have much to say about our future. When the waves beat upon our vessel and threaten a shipwreck, we need anchors we can count on to see us through the storms of life.

In times like these you need a Savior; in times like these you need an anchor; be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! Remember God has instructed each of us to live our lives according to His Word. That will require faith. We are instructed by His Word to give our all to Him. That will require faith.  Paul said, "I believe God..." He knew that the same God that had delivered him from the Philippians jail… The same God who had delivered him from the angry mobs ….the same God who had delivered him time and time again, would deliver him in this situation.

We cannot depend upon our own abilities…we will fail. We cannot trust the majority of those around us…they are just as fallible as we are. We can only cling to the strength of a personal relationship with God. Exercising faith and obedience to His Word will be what will sustain us and lead us to shore.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help my anchor to hold during the storms of Life.
